Snowy Rose

It feels like we should be getting ready to put up (or already have up) Christmas decorations, not that we are only a couple of days away from Halloween.

Not only did we get snow the other day (just enough to coat everything), but it stayed cold enough for it to hang around. Now we are supposed to get a mix of nasty today. Depending on how quickly we warm up, that mix may actually mean ice.

And with this oh, so wonderful blast of winter, came my equally wonderful annual bronchitis. This is going to be such a lovely winter! It is going to be epically entertaining to see how well I can operate power tools while in the middle of a coughing fit.

At least I’ll have a project to work on during the nasty. I confirmed the go ahead on the bid from this contractor to start on the craft room project. I’m sure I’ll have a contract to sign and other little side things before they can start work, but just being able to say “Let’s do this” made me giddy.

I have a smallish project in the garage to get that space more usable for a workspace while I’m doing the cabinets that I have to get done soon. Once that is done, I’m back to playing and honing my tool skills so I’m ready to go.

Hubby is going to be mad at me when I steal his little space heater so I can actually work in that cold garage. Poor guy is just going to have to layer up in the one room in our house that is surrounded by exterior walls and has a crappy window that doesn’t do squat for the insulation in that room.

See what happens when you steal my office? I get a new room and you get to be cold. Ha!

Rose Visitor

It is quite possible I will only have a few more shots of flowers to share (ones I’ve already taken) until next spring. We are supposed to get a decent freeze and even snow or ice, so the few flowers left blooming are probably going to be done for the year.

It really is early for us to get snow of any kind and definitely early for any measurable amounts. That said, if we get it tonight, this will apparently be the third year in a row that we get snow before Halloween.

I’m not really ready to be cold all winter, but I am looking forward to the subject change for photos. Assuming we actually get enough to take photos of.

Black & White Glow

This rose is surprisingly hard to photograph because it so rarely ever comes out looking like it does in real life. Part of this is because of the lighter, near white core and the deep, dark, vivid pinkish red outer petals. The stark contrast between the two often blows out the white and makes the pink do weird things in photograph form.

It does make for some amazing transitions to black and white because of that natural high contrast. I don’t have to work too hard to push it to emphasize that contrast, especially when the flowers start to get speckled like they tend to do.

This one is still pretty solid in color (no speckles), but as soon as I turned it to black and white, it looked like it was glowing from within, giving it almost a photo negative kind of quality.

For a tiny, miniature rose, this one packs a wallop of personality.

Last Year’s Rose

I’d say that I’m planning on playing more with the new software today, but I’m starting to accumulate projects that I need to be working on. While my calendar for March isn’t nearly as full or as colorful as April and May, March is when the crazy starts to really seep in and I need to get those projects done before that happens. The projects are all creative in nature and I’ll be sharing those when I get to them.

I’m also struggling to come up with my next submission for the magazine. I’d had plans in place and fingers crossed for a book on my TBR, but it didn’t work out. Now I’m scrambling to find one that will work and I have to work that in along with the projects. I still have time, but I was really hoping that I’d have a whole lot more cushion to that time.

If I don’t get all of that at least planned and organized, time is going to sneak up on me and bite me in the ass and something is going to slip. That means, I’m going to probably going to be busy. I have a feeling that between the upcoming projects and the insanity that is my calendar in the next several months, I might just be a bit of a mess for a while.
