Lessons Learned: Week 1 of Being An Indie Author

In the little over a week since I clicked publish on my book, I have learned a lot about being in the indie author community and the overall environment around publishing a book on your own. Or at least, the pieces I have seen or attempted to interact with. Some of those lessons aren’t even things I’ve really learned, but rather things I already knew and got pretty emphatically confirmed.

An Unexpected Turn: Cover Reveal

I have a book cover! I am just over the top giddy about this. My guy really did an amazing job and was incredibly tolerant of the fact that I really didn’t know what I wanted outside of my photograph I sent him. He tweaked and nudged and reworked several times, but he got me here, which is amazing. So, if you are looking for some great cover work or interior design, check him out at Streetlight Graphics.

Page Proofs Are A Thing!

Got my page proofs to review from the designers. I knew this was a thing. I was expecting it, but apparently… still not. It really hit me with this that I will be publishing my book soon. And it is going to look like a real book! Seeing these pages formatted as they will be in print makes me giddy as hell. And a little hyperventilatey (yes, I know that isn’t a word). I’m going to go review pages. And take lots of deep breaths. This is happening!

An Unexpected Turn – Cover Hint

I just sent my files off to my cover designer for them to begin work and thought I’d drop a little hint from one of my original images. I’ll post a full cover reveal once it is finished and I have a release date!

Beauty In The Details

The snow we got the other day was so perfect. It was crazy cold and the snow wasn’t heavy and wet, so what fell was full of perfect snow crystals. This is one of several crazy cool shots that show the intricacies of snowflakes. The shot itself isn’t perfect, but I adore that snowflake in the middle. I kind of kicked myself for taking time out of working on edits to take photos, but… worth it! And… I GOT MY EDITS DONE!

Slowly Moving Forward

I sent off my manuscript to my editor over the weekend and got confirmation that we are about 3 weeks out from getting started on it. I’m pretty sure I’ve found who I want to work with on my cover design as well after confirming they will work with my photo. It is all kind of terrifying and nerve wracking, but it is forward movement.

Cover Photoshoot Round 2

BG and I had another fun evening trying to get my cover image for my book. I THINK I may have gotten what I want. I need to do some playing with it, and then have an actual conversation with a cover designer, but… I’m seriously happy with what I have so far.

Refining My Perspective

BG graciously agreed to help me work on my book cover concept this week. I adore the fact that she is not only willing to help, but pretty excited to be a part of this with me.

Continuing Editor Search And Cover Design Ideas

My old fashioned daylilies are in full bloom right now. I have a tiered bed that is literally exploding with them (as in it is so full they are starting to try and find homes outside of that bed).

The Universe Made A Liar Out Of Me

The Universe, Luck, Coincidence, Random Moments of Inspiration… whatever you want to call it, it looks like I’m going to have to rewrite at least a small section of my about page. Continue reading “The Universe Made A Liar Out Of Me”
