As I said in the review, if you like phenomenal, irreverent snark and humor layered into intensely grotesque battle scenes combined with a great story, this really should be on your TBR.

Sounds like my kind of book!

G.A. Aiken is hilarious! Even if you aren’t a massive fantasy fan, her books are worth reading just so you can laugh.

Sci-fi/fantasy are my go to reads. Thanks for making me aware of her.

I’m reading Aliette de Bodard right now.

Hit send too soon. I’m enjoying my foray into de Bodard’s The House of Shattered Wings.

I’ve never heard of it. Any comparisons to something I may have heard of?

I’m just into the second chapter, but her style is elegant. The book deals with angels who’ve fallen from Heaven. So far so good. I’ve read another of her books, The Tea Master and the Detective. It was different. I’m still processing it and might need to read it again. It’s quite different from any sci-fi I’ve ever read. It’s not a lengthy book.

I’m not big on the sci-fi genre like I am fantasy. I do okay with the ones that combine the two, but many of those tend to still not be my favorites. Have I mentioned that being picky really sucks sometimes?

I’m kind of the same only I prefer sci-fi to fantasy. My nephews insisted I read the Wheel of Time series. It was okay, but I wasn’t eager to read the whole series after finishing book one. It felt derivative.

No one in my family is a reader, so I rely on what other people have to say about books. I am noticing that I don’t tend to go with popular opinion, though.

That’s not a bad thing.

I also highly recommend John Scalzi’s Old Man’s War and Adrian Tchaikovsky’s Children of Time.

I might take a peek at those.

They’re both sci-fi, but so intriguing.
