There were several of these outside of the place we were staying. I didn’t get many flower photos while I was gone as I felt pressured to “move along” and not take the time to swap out my lenses. I took the time to get this one, though because it was just so similar, yet different.

I say it is potentially some form of dandelion only because the flower looks like one. But, these were probably close to 3 foot tall and I’ve never seen a dandelion that is more than a few inches, unless it is the fluffy seed head that grows taller. Even that isn’t much more than maybe a foot or so.

There were so many really similar features, but on this they seem exaggerated, longer and ganglier than what I’m used to seeing in a dandelion. Even those fun little curls seemed to be so tall they couldn’t hold themselves up. The loops seem longer and don’t have the same clean, smooth curl a traditional dandelion seems to have (see image below).

I have no idea if this is in fact a dandelion, but it has to be some kind of very close relation.
It sure does look like a dandelion to me. Sometimes they will become quite tall if they’re in good growing conditions.

Have you ever seen one THAT tall? The leaves looked similar and everything. Granted, the leaves on my Gerbera look shockingly similar to a dandelion leaf, so who knows. I’ve just never seen one get over 3 feet before. I was leaning towards yes because the flower bed it was in was pretty much overrun with weeds, but who knows.

I actually have seen many yards around here with really tall weeds like this, maybe closer to 2 feet though, but I would swear that’s a dandelion. I did Google the subject and there are plants that are often mistaken for dandelions so this may remain a mystery 🙂

I’m short, 5’3″, and these were in a slightly raised/mounded bed and hit me a chest/chin height (which is one of the reasons I thought they were so cool), so I’m really guestimating on the actual height. I may have to go digging around to see what I can come up with if I don’t get anyone chiming in with an answer.
