BG and I often have similar music tastes, with a few exceptions. She refuses to listen to most of my older music, unless she can relate it to a meme. I don’t listen to some of her YouTube or game music finds (still have no clue how she finds some of the music she does). The common theme between us is that it is danceable and has an amazing beat.
She started talking about Billie Eilish a while ago, even played a few of her songs for me. At the time, I could really appreciate her voice and the overall sound of her music, but not find a love for the actual songs. Some felt just a bit too dark for my tastes. Since then, a couple of the songs have grown on me and I like them more than when I was introduced to them.
Then BG introduces me to this one.
Straight up, holy crap! That is right up my alley. It is kind of dark and dirty in a fun way, with a seriously awesome level of deep base groove on the right sound system. It reminds me so much of a lot of the music that could always be found in my car, cranked until the speakers were ready to blow back when I was BG’s age and a little older. This song has kind of ignited this thing for BG and I when we are in the car together (no Hubby or MC), usually to or from dance. Windows down. Music blaring. The two of us being insane and singing along.
The more I hear of Billie Eilish’s music, the more I really like her. She rides an interesting line with her style that reminds me in a way of Tori Amos (totally different kinds of music, and I can’t quit put my finger on why I’m connecting the two). This girl is young and has some seriously crazy talent. I watched an interview from NYT with her and her brother and was even more impressed.
Besides how cool this particular song is, I love how it ties BG and I together in this way. I will always love funky music that I can dance to. I don’t think I will ever stop listening to new music in this genre, but this one definitely brings back feelings of younger, more wild days that I haven’t felt in a long time.
