Crisp Freshness

So, the photo doesn’t fit with the season, but it is still perfect for today. My HVAC system finally got completed. We’ve been running at nearly 100% for several days, but were still waiting on the last damper for the zones which got put in today.

One of the many, many pieces to this new, high tech system is an air scrubber. Our previous company had tried to sell us one at an outrageous price and I declined, not really seeing a real benefit to it. It came as part of this system so I was just kind of meh about the whole thing, truly believing that I would see little to no real difference and not even notice. My opinion has changed drastically in the last 4 days.

I started noticing right away, this faint scent that I struggled to put my finger on, but it dawned on me yesterday what it was. It is the type of smell you get in the air right after a snow. It is that cold, crisp, fresh scent that is impossible to reproduce outside of nature. It is just incredibly faint and pleasant, which is really nice.

The other major noticeable difference that has blown me away is how MUCH it takes care of odors (one of the things they really market the scrubber on). We have been trying for 2 years to get the underlying funky stench out of OC’s old room and failed. I went in there last night and could only detect a faint residual odor. I couldn’t believe it. Seriously, I never thought that anything would ever take care of that. Even the mustiness in our basement is nearly gone. I also noticed that it managed to clear out the majority of the smells from last night’s dinner. Something that would have lingered for probably a day before was nearly gone in a few hours. That is pretty damn impressive on its own.

Beyond the awesomeness of that scrubber is how well the system has been working even at less than 100%. Pretty much every room in the house feels a thousand times better. The dead area in our upstairs hallway has for the first time EVER felt comfortable. Now that the final zone is in, I’m anxious to see how different our bedroom feels. We struggle with several issues in there because of placement in the house (lots of attic space surrounding walls and portions over the garage), plus an issue with humidity not really dispersing after showers.

Just the differences we’ve seen so far have been phenomenal and made it feel like this whole mess was well worth the headache and the money spent. I cannot wait to see all the other potential benefits now that it is fully functioning.

I am a slightly sane artist, amateur photographer, book addict, wife, mom and raging introvert. I have more hobbies than I can count, so it is beyond shocking that I manage to find time to do any of them, let alone most of them and still have time to do anything else. Of all the talents I claim, writing wasn’t one of them until my muse dropped the idea for a book on my head.
