Done, Done, Done and DONE!!

New Office Space

I. AM. DONE! Not mostly. Not kinda. But done. What was really just supposed to be a kinda big, but not major project of moving stuff from one space in my house to another turned into this crazy, spider web of smaller projects that kept spiraling out to pick up other small projects along the way. It was kind of hellish and hard and tiring and a shit ton of work, but I ADORE the end results and I’m so stinkin’ pooped, I want to sit and not move for a month.

The painting of the corner of the basement went off pretty well. I nearly ran out of paint and struggled a bit with the learning curve of a new paint sprayer, but it came out nice for bare concrete walls.

My living room became a catch all to hold everything I was taking out of my original office/craft room. It looked like a bomb went of in a craft store. I honestly don’t know what I would have done without BG and MC. They became wonderful little pack mules for me yesterday, helping me move the disaster to the basement once I had it all out of my office. Even with their help, I was too tired to actually put everything in it’s place and organize it all last night after the furniture was moved. Again, massive kudos to the kids and Hubby because every single one of them pitched in to help me get it all where it needed to go.

When I started pulling stuff out of that room to move it, I realized I needed to go through several bins. That became one of the numerous side projects that I decided needed to get done. I now have all the old school supplies sorted or tossed and they are easy to find and use now. I consolidated so much I ended up with several empty bins which helped when I was putting things back together later.

One of my other side projects, also in the basement, was cleaning out the area where we keep our paint. I decided that I needed to empty the mostly empty shelving unit that we had our games on and move them upstairs and use the shelving unit for the paint. Oh, wait! That was TWO side projects, not just one. I now have an extremely organized paint area and I can actually find what I’m looking for now. Shocking! I know.

One of my other issues was the fact that my new craft space is in the basement. That means a huge issue with spiders, dust and kitty litter dust (that shit gets frickin’ everywhere!) and I needed to keep everything a bit more protected. Hubby and I talked and decided to switch my open shelving unit with a closed cabinet we had in the garage. Yup! Another side project! Yay.

The furniture was all in place and ready last night, so I spent all day getting everything put where I wanted it and arranged. Oh, another side project? Building a 2×4 frame for me to attach some power strips to as I only have a single outlet in this entire space. It fits perfectly behind my workbench which is where most of my power tools and things will be used. I am so stinkin’ excited about how much room I have and how organized this space is. I have room to set up my folding table if I need to do a project that requires more space like sewing. With the rug in place, it will also help to keep the dust contained a little bit. I also got a few extra inexpensive drop cloths to cover my workbench and my firing station when I’m not actively using the space to keep from needing to take a full day to clean the area up before I can even work on a project. Everything is now either under a cloth or in a bin so it is completely protected (and the cats can’t mess with anything either).

My office… Oh, what can I say about my office? It is frickin’ amazing. I love every single bit of it. And… I HAVE ART ON MY WALLS! I’d had a couple of photos and one of my favorite pieces on the wall before, but there wasn’t much room for anything else. Now, I have a few of my favorites, all from various different points in time (even early high school). It feels really good to have some of those things out in the open rather than just sitting in a portfolio case collecting dust and getting smudged.

The bookcases weren’t planned to be in here, but I saw how empty it was and moved them from the living room. Moving those meant reorganizing and rearranging our movies so they stayed in the living room. Of course that meant I had to fix my CD collection that got moved to the bookshelf in their place. Then the living room felt out of balance, so I moved everything around a little bit (again). To get it the way I wanted it, I needed to move a chair over to another room. That gave us a really cozy place just off our kitchen. That prompted moving around a couple of lamps… side projects? Nope. Don’t know what you are talking about. I’m sure I’ve forgotten at least one or two. I feel like I actually moved the entire house, not just one room, but… again. I’m frickin’ DONE and I love it! Every single space in my house now feels open, decluttered and so homey and comfortable. With the new windows, I kind of feel a bit like I have a whole new house.

    1. I’m still good to be able to do it as long as I have help, but I’m pushing the age where I won’t be able to do that for much longer. I am STILL covered in bruises from that project!

    1. I like to move things around a little too much. That and repainting the walls. That is probably my favorite go to thing to make a room look fresh and new. I already know that my next painting project will most likely be the new office space because I just can’t leave well enough alone.
