This weekend kicked of the Christmas programs at BG’s dance studio. They are always cute, sweet and fun. What I did not quite anticipate was the fact that, with her ballet program at least, she would now be in a show with Seniors.
Because her studio only has students through high school, being a Senior is a big deal. I’ve seen it at the end of the year recitals, but for some reason I just did not make that same connection for the Christmas show. That that would be those girls last time performing for the studio in that program. It was hugely emotional. Both for the girls dancing and all those in the audience.
To make it even more so, the high school group did probably one of the most beautiful performances I’ve seen done at the studio. The song, the choreography, everything came together in this stunning mix that didn’t leave many dry eyes in the audience. It was so awesome.
I love all these things that the studio does. I’ve bragged before, but it is just an awesome place for these kids. They are not competitive, but they are a pretty large studio. Even with that, they are like this gigantic family. There is so much care and nurturing that is a part of every single thing they do, it isn’t just about teaching kids how to dance.
After the ballet performance, BG tells me that she is so glad that when she said she wanted to start dance that I picked that studio because she couldn’t imagine ever dancing anywhere else. That is exactly what I wanted for her. I knew about the studio because a good friend of mine when I was growing up danced there. I got to go and watch her recitals, which are always held at a huge theater with a massive stage, room for over 2,000 seats, and a full on back stage chock full of professional dressing rooms. It is an experience like nothing else. Even if these kids only dance for a year or keep dancing well past high school (and many of these girls do), it is an experience that they will never forget. BG is getting that.
We have one more performance to go to this week. Since the Christmas programs are held at the studio, they are broken down by class. BG is in ballet and a mixed class so she has two. The last will be her tap/jazz performance. There will be no Seniors for that one, which I’m grateful for. As beautiful as it was to watch them, I’d like to end this round on a brighter note. Knowing the songs she is dancing to for this one, it will definitely be that.
It is also the last “must do” thing before everyone is on break for the holidays. Both the kids will be done with school until after the new year and Hubby will be on vacation for that same time. I will have a full house instead of my normal quiet. It will be two weeks of crazy kids, laughter, movies and just being lazy all around. Other than having my FIL and SIL over to celebrate on Christmas Eve, we have no other commitments. It is going to be nice.
