Bring On The Scary

This will probably be the first year ever that I won’t be carving a pumpkin for Halloween. We have always gone all out for Halloween with a full on haunted garage and everything and the pumpkins have always been a huge part of that. It is something I adore doing and usually put a crap ton of work into, but this year, I do not have the motivation. At all. Continue reading “Bring On The Scary”

Hunting

I’m really missing that I no longer get these encounters anymore. For over 10 years we had nothing but an open field behind our house. Until we put up our fence a couple of years after we moved in, we would get deer in the yard, right next to the house to eat my flowers. The day we moved in, a coyote took up residence against my back door and scared the crap out of me when I went to open it. After the fence was put up, we would often get sights like this one because it and the kids swing set that used to be there were the perfect perches for birds to stand watch and hunt in the field. Chocolate Covered Cherry Cake Pops

This is only the second time I’ve made this specific recipe, though I’ve played with cake balls for a while trying to get the ratios and chocolate correct. I know I’ve done something different as the first batch of these I ever did came out perfect, but this time, my outer chocolate layer never quite got as solid as it is supposed to. That said, they were still really good. Continue reading “Chocolate Covered Cherry Cake Pops”

Pumpkin Cupcakes

This is probably my second most requested cupcake. Years ago, my SIL brought some pumpkin cupcakes to Thanksgiving and I fell in love. It surprised me since I am NOT a pumpkin fan. I spent some time after that trying to figure out what I thought went in them and then digging around for recipes that sounded close. When I finally found one and tried it, it was just a bit too much. Too much pumpkin, too many spices. One of the things I loved about the ones my SIL brought were the fact that all of the flavors were on the lighter side and subtle, balancing each other out rather than competing against each other. Today’s Labor

Hubby’s work always does a bake sale where employee’s or their spouses can bring baked goods in and then buy stuff other people made. The proceeds go to sponsor a couple of families for the holidays. This is one of my favorite things to participate in because I get to go all out. Baking. Decorating. Coming up with cool ways to package it all. I love it because I get to play in lots of my different creative arenas. Continue reading “Today’s Labor”

Thoughts on #MeToo

I’d been dealing with lots of thoughts on the issue of sexual assault and the general response (or lack thereof) when a woman makes a claim of sexual assault quite a bit lately. With my own personal experience in my past, it is an issue I’ve always had struggles with trying to grasp. The last couple of weeks, there have been a couple of things that have popped up, keeping it in the front of my thoughts, even had a discussion on FB. When I saw the hashtag going around, it kind of felt like maybe I needed to get it out of my head. Continue reading “Thoughts on #MeToo”
